Alison Hosking

Alison HoskingAlison has specialised in family law since qualification in 2002, prior to working in private practise Alison also worked for a Local Authority in respect of public law proceedings. Her specialised area is children act matters both private law disputes, between couples, and public law proceedings where Local Authority’s are involved.  In these cases Alison undertakes a lot of the advocacy herself.  Being a member of Resolution, Alison is also aware of the need for cases to be handled in a sensitive and focussed way.  Alison has a very personable approach to work aided by a sense of humour that also helps!

In her spare time when not providing a taxi service to two children, she is a keen and slow runner, and has completed 15 half marathons and t3 marathon.  All this running fuelled by endless cups of tea! She is also a keen skier and badminton player.  Alison is a parent governor in one of her children’s Schools.

Sue Devereaux


Sue DevereauxSusan qualified in 1990, immediately becoming a partner in a general practice on the South Coast.  Since then, she has specialised in private Family Law, including all aspects of pre- and post-nuptial settlements, divorce and separation in matrimonial and quasi-matrimonial relationships.  She carries out most of the work herself, including advocacy.    Each relationship is unique and therefore requires a sensible and creative approach tailored to individual circumstances.  As a member of Resolution and trained Mediator, Susan is well-qualified to help.

Out of office hours,  she likes cooking and  travelling.  She enjoys being on the water and has participated in the Sudbury-to-the Sea kayak challenge for the last two years.  She speaks fluent Spanish.

Susan chairs the School  Association at her eldest son’s school in Colchester.

Alice Brotchie

Solicitor & Partner

Alice Alice qualified as a Solicitor in the Civil Litigation Department in September 2012 and joined the Partnership in April 2015. Her caseload is varied but she is the first port of call for letting agents in the town for Landlord and Tenant disputes.

Alice also advises on matrimonial, employment, personal injury, debt recovery, boundary and contract disputes. She is also the firm's Compliance Office for Legal Practice. Alongside the law Alice is the Vice Chair of the board of trustees for Grassroots, a charity which helps small groups in Colchester and Tendring.

Outside the law Alice tries to get on the water as much as possible having sailed for Great Britain in the 420 dinghy class. Alice enjoys club racing at the Blackwater Sailing Club.

Wendy JohnstonWendy has worked for the firm for a number of years. She is married to Bryan and has two children and three step children.

When she is not working, she is to be found pounding the pavements and cycling the streets of Colchester, training for half-marathons and marathons which take place up and down the country.

Nicola GoodingNicola joined GoodyBurrett in April 2014, and assists in the Family Department alongside Alison Hosking, Sue Devereaux and Alice Brotchie.

Outside of work, Nicola enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
